Kreis Herford Selects Intric as Sovereign AI Infrastructure for Its District Administration

Stockholm, October 2026 — Kreis Herford and Intric have signed an agreement under which Kreis Herford will deploy Intric's sovereign AI infrastructure across its district administration. Kreis Herford is a district in North Rhine-Westphalia with approximately 253,000 inhabitants across nine cities and municipalities.

Under the agreement, employees of the Kreisverwaltung will use Intric to build and deploy AI assistants that support their daily work. The deployment will start in the departments of social services, finance, transport and human resources. As a first step, Intric will hold workshops with each of the four departments to build AI assistants together with them, based on their specific needs and operations. The deployment can be extended to further departments over time. The platform is operated under Kreis Herford's own governance and in line with GDPR requirements.

The agreement extends Intric's deployments in Germany and marks the company's first deployment with a German Landkreis. Kreis Herford handles sensitive personal data on behalf of its citizens, including in areas such as social services, youth welfare and health, which places high demands on where data is processed and who controls it.
